Juan Jaime Wins State Title to Cap Off Undefeated Season

LEMOORE - The Dons wrestling team capped off another great season with a fifth place finish at the 2012 California Community College Athletic Association Wrestling State Championships held December 7-8 at West Hills College.

Highlighting their 2012 campaign was freshman Juan Jaime who claimed the State Championship at 133-pounds after defeating AJ Valles of Fresno City College. With the championship, Jaime finished his season undefeated at 24-0.

Following Jaime was Carlos Arana who capped his SAC career with a second-place finish at 165-pounds. Arana picked up wins over wrestlers from Sierra College and Lassen College before losing 9-3 in the finals to Fresno City's Matt Hickman.

Nathan Matteo had a pair of falls on his way to a third place finish at 149-pounds. Ultimately, it was his 4-2 decision over Palomar College's Jacob Dunning that gave him third place.

A pair of Dons took fourth place in each of their respective weight class.  Jacob Blackwell took fourth at 157-pounds while Ari Ekizian finished fourth in the 285-pound weight class.

Wrapping up the Dons weekend was a pair of eighth-place finishes by Awwad Yasin at 174-pounds and Juan Hernandez at 184-pounds.

Fresno City College won the overall team title followed by Mt. San Antonio College with host West Hills College taking third place. Sacramento City College edged the Dons by 2.5 points to take fourth place.
