Wrestling Falls to Top-Ranked Cerritos College in Second Conference Match

SANTA ANA- The Dons host top-ranked Cerritos College in a South West Conference Dual and lost at 49-3.

125 Pounds- Eliso Medina def. Norberto Buenrostro.

Eliso Medina scored the first two points of the match with a takedown against Norberto Buenrostro. Cerritos then scored two points with a reversal against Eliso Medina, then won the match win a pin.

135 Pounds- Anthony Vargas def. Ezequiel Jimenez

 The Falcons were first to score with a two point takedown. Jimenez then scored a point with an escape, but the Falcons reacted with another two point takedown. Jimenez scored another point with an escape, but Anthony Vargas came back with another takedown. Vargas then scored two four-point ear falls on Jimenez leading 14-2 at the end of the first period. 

In the second period, Cerritos led with a two-point ear fall, but then Jimenez scored one point with an escape, but Cerritos won the match at 16-3.

141 Pounds- Andrew Gomez def.  Vincent Dehakis

Gomez opened the period with a takedown against returning All-American Vincent Dehakis. The Falcons soon tied the score 2-2 with an escape and a technical violation from the Dons. In the second period, Gomez scored the first point with an escape to lead 3-2. Gomez established a takedown to lead 5-2 with 14 seconds left in the period. Dehakis scored an escape, but Gomez scored another two point takedown. The Falcons scored another escape with one more minute left in the period. Gomez scored another takedown, but Dehakis landed another escape with ten seconds left. Gomez then won the match at 11-5.

149 Pounds- Wyatt Gerl def. Tristan Steinman

Gerl opened the match with a two point takedown against Tristan Steinman and ended the period with a 2-0 lead over the Falcons. During the second period, an illegal hold was called on Santa Ana and awarded Gerl one point. Tristan Steinman opened the third period with a two-point reversal, but Gerl responded with a takedown and ended the match with a win for Cerritos at 7-2.

157 Pounds- Kevin James def. Luis Cervantes

Cerritos opened the period with a takedown, but Cervantes escaped. James answered with another takedown and a two-point ear fall to lead 6-1. Cervantes established another escape for his second point, but James landed one more takedown before the period ended at 8-2. During the second period, Cervantes was awarded another escape point, but James scored another takedown to lead 10-3. James opened the third period with an escape and won the match 12-3.

165 Pounds- Dylan Moreno def. Armon Faryyazi

The first period remained scoreless. Moreno scored a takedown in the first min of the second period, followed by a reversal by Armon Faryyazi at 2-2 with a minute left. Both teams had escapes to keep the score tied at 3-3, but then Moreno advanced the score by two points with another takedown with ten seconds left on the clock. In the third period, Moreno led with an escape at 6-3. With twenty-two seconds left, Moreno scored a takedown and Faryyazi acquired an escape, but lost the match to Moreno at 8-4.

174 Pounds- Blake Vasquez def. Brandon Tierney

Vasquez held Brandon Tierney to a takedown in the last minute of the first period, but Tierney escaped at 2-1. Vasquez then led with another takedown at 4-1. Tierney escaped for another point with 10 seconds left in the first period. During the second period, Tierney had the first point with an escape at 4-3, but then Vasquez had another takedown to bring the score up to 6-3. Vasquez scored a two point reversal in the third period to bring the score up to 8-3 for the win.

184 Pounds- Zachary Ahrensfield v Bryant Vasquez

Vasquez opened the first period with a two point takedown against Zachary Ahrensfield. Ahrensfield then escaped and put himself on the board at 2-1, but Vasquez answered with another two-point takedown. Vasquez then pinned Ahrensfield for the win at 4-1.
