Calderon and Kaveh Take First in Divisions, Lead Santa Ana to Fourth Place in Tournament

SANTA ANA, Calif. – Isaih Calderon and Alireza Kaveh led the Santa Ana College wrestling team to a fourth place finish in their annual tournament on Saturday, October 5th.

Calderon took first in the 133lb bracket and was named the lower weight tournament MVP as he dominated the field with two falls, a technical fall and a 11-3 major decision.

In the next weight class up (141lbs), Kevah also went undefeated with two falls and a major decision of 15-5 in the championship round.

Other noteworthy performances came from Benjamin Navarrete, who took second in the 149lb division after falling in the championship by a score of 11-3 to Bakersfield's Adrian Gonzales. And Christian Hernandez landed in fourth place at 165lbs as he was defeated in the consolation championship against Alex Thornburg of Sacramento City.

The Dons scored 89.5 points which put them right behind Mt. SAC, who placed third with 93 points. Bakersfield took second at 101 points while Cerritos won the team title for the tournament with 128 points on the day.

Santa Ana will have a quick turn around as they get ready to battle Cerritos on the road in a dual on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
