SAC Wrestling Knocks Off No. 14 Rio Hondo 29-18 in Final Home Dual of the Season

SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Santa Ana wrestling team knocked off No. 14 Rio Hondo 29-18 in its final home dual of the season on Wednesday night.

With the win, SAC improved to 2-2 in SCWA Southwest Conference action.

Hector Camarena opened the night with a 12-4 win against Adrian Guevara in the 125 lb slot. After Guevara scored on a takedown to start the bout, Camarena responded with two takedowns of his own to take the lead for good, giving Santa Ana a 4-0 advantage.

The second round featured a matchup between Santa Ana's No. 1 ranked Isaih Calderon against Rio Hondo's unranked Khalil Tucker in the 133 lb division. Tucker fought his way to a 10-9 upset as he jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first and held on as time expired. The Roadrunners earned three points for the win to cut the SAC lead to one (4-3).

In round three, SAC's Andrew Longmore battled 8th ranked Christina Espinoza in the 141 lb division. Longmore held his ground early on but lost steam late, falling 13-7 to give Rio Hondo a 6-4 lead in the match.

From there, Santa Ana went on a run, collecting wins in the next five bouts as Alireza Kaveh (Fall, 4:56), Benjamin Navarrete (14-6), Christian Hernandez (17-8), Daniel Serrano (Tech Fall, 16-0) and Jean-Karlo Navas (Forfeit) took care of business to give the Dons a 29-6 lead.

Although Rio Hondo took the last two rounds, Santa Ana walked away with the 29-18 team victory.
