Santa Ana Finishes Pre-Season with a 0-0 Tie Against Southwestern

SANTA ANA, Calif. – In their last pre-season match of the year, Santa Ana women's soccer ended in a 0-0 tie against Southwestern after 90 minutes of action.

The Dons were in control for much of the first period, leading the Jaguars in shots at 9-3 going into half-time. That all changed when Stephanie Duarte was given a questionable red card early in the second period, forcing the Dons to play 10 on 11 for the rest of the match.

Southwestern pressed the issue after that and came close to taking the lead with multiple shots hitting the crossbar and missing just wide. The Jaguars took advantage of their extra player and doubled their shot attempts in the second period, finishing with nine in total.

Although Santa Ana was down a player, they continued to compete and just about came up with a couple of goals themselves.

Lauryn Wood was the Dons biggest threat as she was able to get off nine shots of Santa Ana's 16 shots with five of them being on target. Wood shifted up to forward from her normal position at mid-field, covering for her injured teammates.

GAME NOTES

The teams combined for four yellow cards and a red card in the match, making it very chippy and competitive. Santa Ana's trainer had her work cut out for her, tending to both teams frequently all match long. Each team probably thought that they should have won that game but they'll both settle for a tie.
