Dons Get Off to Good Start but Can’t Hold on Against Chargers

SANTA ANA, Calif. – After getting off to a good start against the Cypress Chargers, the Santa Ana College Volleyball team just could not hold on to win a set, falling 3-0 on Friday night.

The Dons found themselves up 23-20 in the first set but saw their lead dwindle until the Chargers took the set 26-24.

Mikelle Taylor put down nine of her 18 kills in the first set, leading the Dons to a team hitting percentage of .323 in the set.

In the last two sets, the Dons were unable to keep up the same offensive efficiency, hitting .250 as a team in the second and just .038 in the third.

If the Dons can find a way to sustain the kind of play they had in the first set, they can compete with any team in the state. On Wednesday, Oct. 18th they will look to do that as they travel to Saddleback College to play the Gauchos at 6:00 p.m.
