Dons Battle No. 2 IVC, Fall in Three

SANTA ANA, Calif. – Fresh off their first Orange Empire Conference win of the season, the Santa Ana volleyball team took on No. 2 ranked Irvine Valley (9-0) at home on Wednesday night. It only took three sets for IVC to come out with a win but the Dons made them work for points all night.

The Dons played some of their best volleyball during the first set and even held the lead at 14-12. But Irvine found a way to rally and escape with a 25-19 win.

In set two, Santa Ana was held back by unforced errors as they tallied 10 on their way to a 25-14 loss.

And in set three, the Dons kept fighting with long rallies but ultimately fell 25-8 to drop the match by a score of 3-0.

Libero Ally Wardlow had another solid match with 20 digs to lead all players. She also recorded an assist and an ace. Courtney Gomez was the team leader in assists with 16 to go with six digs and a kill.

Myrandah Zepeda and Ashly Hernandez made the most of their opportunities as they went for eight kills a piece while combining for eight digs.

Santa Ana drops to 2-7, 1-1 in Orange Empire Conference play but will have a chance to get back in the win column when they go on the road to face Riverside City (6-5) on Friday night.
