Dons Fall in Three to Golden West

SANTA ANA, Calif. – Santa Ana volleyball took a 3-0 (25-17, 29-27, 25-21) loss to Golden West College in Orange Empire Conference play on Wednesday night. The Dons fell to 5-16, 2-11 with the loss.

Errors played a big role in set one as Golden West went up one with a 25-17 win. Santa Ana committed nine errors in the set, giving themselves just a slim chance of success.

In set two, the Dons turned things around right away and jumped out to an early 3-1 lead. After a GWC serving error, Ashly Hernandez put down an emphatic kill to set the tone for the Dons. But the Rustlers would not go away and battled back to keep things close. The set went into the late 20's until the Rustlers pulled out a 29-27 win.

After trailing 7-0 to start the third, SAC made it a game as they pulled within one point at 17-16. Unfortunately, that was as close as they got as the Rustlers fended them off for a 25-21 set three victory.

Ally Wardlow led the Dons in digs again with 29. She continues to hold the top spot in the Orange Empire Conference with 418 digs and 5.81 digs per set.

Myrandah Zepeda and Ashly Hernandez posted 12 kills each while Courtney Gomez, Kimberly Meza and Elizabeth Merold combined for 11.

Gomez also led the Dons with 23 assists to go with four digs on the night.

NEXT UP: The Dons will play their next two games on the road with Cypress on Friday, Nov. 8th and Saddleback on Friday the 15th.
