Santa Ana Volleyball Battles but Falls in Three

SANTA ANA, Calif. - In its home opener on Friday night, the Santa Ana College Women's Indoor Volleyball team took on San Diego City College (2-0) in a non-conference match. After three sets, SAC was defeated 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-16) by the Knights to fall to a 0-2 record.

In the first set, the Dons just made too many mistakes to come back from as they recorded just four kills and eight errors to start the match.

But in set number two SAC showed a glimpse of what they could really do as they forced a few late lead changes before dropping the set 25-22. The Dons ultimately lost the match after losing the third set 25-16.

Offensively, SAC was led by Taylor Vagana and Jennifer Rivera who posted six kills a piece. The duo also combined for 13 digs on the night.

Santa Ana's setters had a solid night as Kaiden Raif recorded a game high 12 assists with three digs and two aces while Courtney Gomez came up with seven assists and eight digs.

Starting libero Angela Hill pitched in with 11 digs and three aces while Karen Salazar and Kassandra Zavala added a total of seven kills and 11 digs and three aces.

The Dons look to get into the win column when they play again on Wednesday. Their match against Copper Mountain has been replaced with a contest against Southwestern College. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
