No. 22 Santa Ana Sweeps No. 24 Golden West in OEC Opener

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - In its Orange Empire Conference opener, the No. 22 ranked Santa Ana College Women's Volleyball team swept No. 24 Golden West 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-18) on Friday night. 

It was the first opportunity for the Dons to play against a ranked opponent this season and they did not disappoint.

Matilde Teixeira continued to shine for Santa Ana as their top offensive threat. The sophomore outside hitter racked up a team high 12 kills while also collecting 11 digs. 

Sophomore setter Kaiden Raif looked sharp throughout as she kept the Rustlers on their toes by sharing the ball with every attacker available to her. She finished with 34 assists while getting six different players the ball. 

Keilani Pearspn played in her first game as a Don and joined Kassandra Zavala and Alison Caswell as the trio recorded six kills apiece. Lea Mendez, who also saw her first action of the season, and Andrea Sanchez posted three kills each. 

The Dons are still undefeated with a record of 8-0, 1-0 and will head home for another big test. SAC will host No. 10 Cypress in OEC action at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday night. Cypress defeated Fullerton 3-1 (25-16, 22-25,18-25, 20-25) on Friday.
