Troy Abbey was named the Head Coach of the Santa Ana College volleyball team in 2001.

In 2003, Abbey was named the Orange Empire Conference Coach of the Year. Prior to coaching at Santa Ana College, Abbey was the head volleyball coach at La Habra High School from 1996-2000. During his tenure, the Highlanders won two CIF Championships (1998, 2000), were Division II State Regional Champions and State Finalists (2000). Abbey also guided La Habra to five consecutive Freeway League Championships.

While coaching at La Habra, Abbey was named the CIF Division II Coach of the Year in 1998 and 2000, Orange County Register Coach of the Year in 1998 and 2002, Los Angeles Times Coach of the Year in 2000, and ESPN’s Coach of the Week during the 2000 season.

Abbey also coached at Saddleback College from 1992-1995, leading the Gauchos to the regional playoffs in 1993 and 1994. Abbey also spent 10 years (1986-1996) coaching for CAL JRS Volleyball Club.

Over the course of his career, Abbey has coached over 20 players who have gone on to play at four-year universities including Korina Fryslie who transferred from Santa Ana College to Chapman University following the 2004 season. Abbey also coached Jim Polster who went on to be a member of the USA Men’s National Team and Keao Burdine who played for the Association of Volleyball Professionals and the USA Women’s National “B” Team.
