Dons Have Strong Outing at 2017 Brubaker Invitational

ORANGE, Calif. – The 2017 Brubaker Invitational was hosted by Santa Ana College at Irvine Park on Friday morning.

Both Santa Ana teams had an outstanding day, with the women finishing fourth out of ten teams and the men placing second, also out of ten teams.

Andrea Anaya represented the Don women on the podium after finishing 12th overall with a time of 21:25.13. Next in was Monique Azpeitia, who took 22nd coming in at 22:30.13.

As a team, the Dons pushed each other to perform well and snagged the fourth-place spot in their home meet.

After all the excitement of the women's event, the men were set to get after it on the four-mile course.

Sophomore Eric Jimenez led the way for the Dons once again, jumping out to an early lead and staying strong throughout the race. Jimenez took home the top spot for the second time this year, coming in approximately 32 seconds before anyone else. He clocked in with a time of 20:48.55.

Two more Dons finished in the top 15, with Eduardo Guapilla placing 10th at a time of 22:03.52 and Jesus Fuentes taking 15th with a time of 22:17.08.

With the second-place finish, the Dons look poised leap up a few spots in the state standings.

The Dons will be back in action on Oct. 20th at Cal State Fullerton for the 2017 Titan Invitational. Start time is set for 5:00 p.m.
