Santa Ana Men Place 9th, Women Take 19th at CCCAA State Championships

FRESNO, Calif. – The Don Cross Country program traveled to Woodward Park in Fresno to compete against the best teams in the state at the CCCAA State Championships on Saturday morning.

Dalton Aviles (24th - 21.00) and Servando Aviles (26th - 21:04) led the men's team to their second consecutive ninth place finish at the CCCAA State Championships. Giovanni Barajas (50th – 21:28.3), Dante Perez (89th – 22:03.1), Lizandro Hernandez (99th – 22:11.1), Octavio Moreno (125th – 22:37.0) and Daniel Gonzalez (148th – 23:01.6) ran solid races to help the Dons finish the 2018 season strong.

"I'm so proud of the Aviles brothers", said Coach Miriam Mitzel. "They did an amazing job leading the team today and had a great finish to the season".

Maria Marroquin (69th - 20:24.5) was the top finisher for the SAC women, helping her team to 19th place overall and was followed by Lucero Torres Calderon (104th – 21:14.7), Monique Azpeitia (115th – 21:31.3), Melissa Aguirre (138th – 22:35.4) and Jacqueline Sanchez (152nd – 23:33.3).

It was a great season for the Don women, as they made the state championships as a team for the first time since 2015.

Santa Ana will look forward to the 2019 season and are set to return about half of the of the men and four out of six women.
