Barajas Wins, Marroquin Takes Third as SAC Teams Place in Top Seven

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – Giovanni Barajas continues to show that he is one of the best runners in the state as he came away with a first-place finish at the Golden West Invitational on Friday morning.

Barajas dominated the field in this one, winning the race by more than 25 seconds with a time of 21:03.33. He led the Santa Ana men's team to a seventh place finish out of 14 teams.

Corban Pagnotta was the next Don finish with a time of 22:31.63 for 22nd place. Francisco Avila (77th/24:33.14), Eder Diaz (95th/25:21.97) and Andres Ramirez (105th/ 25:47.06) rounded out the SAC men's team.  

Santa Ana also had a standout on the women's side with Maria Marroquin taking third place out of all collegiate participants. Marroquin clocked in out 20:13.35 for her fastest time of the year.

The Don women placed 6th as a team with three members coming in the top 50. Irlanda Hernandez came in at 22:47.39 for 43rd place and was trailed closely by teammate Daisy Tellez, who earned 46th place with a time of 23:04.14. Paula Alvarez (54th / 23:48.53) and Giselle Arenas (73rd / 25:20.38) finished strong on the back end of the race to secure the quality result for their team.

Santa Ana will take a week off before competing in the Cerritos Falcons Invitational at Don Knabe Park on Friday, October 4th at 10:00 a.m.
