Pat Burris began his championship career with the Dons in 1968 and would go on to claim seven different titles before transferring following the 1969-70 season.

During the 1968-69 season, as a freshman, Burris won the Eastern Conference Championship before going on to win the Southern California Championship. He would also be named a Junior College All-American that season.

During his sophomore campaign, Burris would duplicate his feats by claiming the Eastern Conference and Southern California Championships for the second-straight season before finishing his season with a 32-1 record which included the 1970 State Championship. Burris would once again be named a Junior College All-American for his accomplishments.

Following his career at Santa Ana College, Burris transferred to Northern Colorado University where he was a two-time Rocky Mountain Conference Champion while earning his bachelor’s degree in education.

Burris would go on to represent the United States in the 1972 and 1976 Olympics while also winning the USA National Judo Championship seven times. He also won the gold medal in the Pan-Am Games and has been inducted into the Judo Hall of Fame as both an athlete and a coach.
