In one season of play Erik Martin set six Rancho Santiago/Santa Ana College records, four still stand today. The 832 points he scored in the 1990-91 season still stands in the Santa Ana College record books and ranks 29 th on the all-time scoring leaders list, Martin is the only player on the list to not play in two seasons. 

He also holds the school record for field goals made (340), most points scored in a 12 game conference schedule (300) and the highest points per game average in a 12 game conference schedule (25). 

Martin also held the record for highest field goal percentage (.637) and rebounds (348) following the 1990-91 season. Martin was named to the first-team All-State team while helping the Dons to a 35-2 record and the school's first state championship. 
Martin is one of three basketball players in Santa Ana 's history to have his jersey number retired. 

After leaving Rancho Santiago, Martin went on to the University of Cincinnati where he was a member of the Bearcats team that made it to the Final Four in 1992. 

After graduating from UC with a degree in criminal justice, Martin went on to play professional basketball for nine years. During this time he played for the Yakima Sun Kings in the Continental Basketball Association, winning the CBA Championship in 1995. He was also a member of Team USA in the Pan-Am Games in 1995, winning the silver medal. He also won the gold medal with Team USA in 1997 in the Tournament of Americas. During his time with Team USA , Martin set the individual competition and career mark for highest field goal percentage (.758) in 1995 and is tied for fourth for most blocked shots (10). 

Martin played professionally overseas as well, playing in Spain , Japan , Argentina and China.

Martin has been teaching in the Cincinnati public school system from 2003-2006 and coached for two years at Cincinnati State Community College from 2004-06.
