SANTA ANA, Calif. – Santa Ana's defense was key in Wednesday night's 63-59 win over the Irvine Valley Lasers, as the Dons held their opponent to 25.8 percent shooting from the field and 24.1 percent from behind the arc.
On offense, the Dons benefited from a balanced attack with seven players scoring six or more points and no one scoring above 13.
Cameron High was their leading scorer with 13 points while Chris Bailey put in 12 points and eight rebounds.
Santa Ana's bench came up big in the win, combining for 24 points on the night. Desmond Johnlouis had one of his best games of the season, going for nine points and three rebounds in 10 minutes. D' Caran Anderson shot 2-5 from three and scored nine points while Jordan Owens chipped in with six points and three boards in addition to playing exceptional defense against the Lasers' best guards.
It was the second lowest shooting percentage of the season for the Lasers all season. Irvine Valley scored just 59 points in the loss to drop to 14-13, 3-7.
The Dons snapped a seven-game losing streak to improve to 9-14 and 2-8 in Orange Empire Conference play. Santa Ana will finish their season on the road, traveling to Copper Mountain on Friday and then concluding with a game at Cypress on Tuesday, Feb. 13th.
