Dons Fall to Riverside 101-75 in First Home Game of 2022

SANTA ANA, Calif. - The Santa Ana Men's Basketball team returned to Bill Cook Gym on Wednesday night to host No. 16 Riverside (12-6, 5-2) in Orange Empire Conference action. In a high scoring affair, the Dons (4-12, 1-5) fell to the Tigers by a score of 101-75. 

The tone was set early in the first half as both teams seemed content with seeing who was the better face pace team.

At the 10:24 mark, Santa Ana's Camren Johnson knocked down a three to tie the score at 20-20 to end the feeling out period. Following that, the Tigers went on a run to build a 14 point (51-37) lead by halftime.

The second half was almost a mirror image of the first, the both teams scoring almost the exact same amount of points leading to the Riverside victory. 

Santa Ana played a decent game offensively but were outmatched on the glass. The Tigers outrebounded them 54-26, giving them 15 more shots on the night. 

Johnson was the high man in points with 18 on the night while shooting 6-for-14 from the field and 4-for-8 from three. Brandon Green added 15 points in 18 minutes off the bench while newcomer Russell Malone dropped another 15 in his second start of the season. 

The Dons will be back at home to host No. 20 Irvine Valley on Wednesday, February 2nd at 5:00p.m. IVC is now 10-6, 2-3 after a 77-63 loss to Fullerton.
