SAC Men’s Soccer Battles OCC to 0-0 Tie

SANTA ANA, Calif. – With 39 minutes left in their match against the Orange Coast Pirates, the Santa Ana men's soccer team was forced to play with just 10 men on the field after Jesus Negrete was given his second yellow card of the day.

The Pirates began to attack the shorthanded Don defense at that point, shooting nine more shots than they did in the first half and earning six corner kicks.

Santa Ana was able to withstand the barrage of shots to keep the score tied at zero. They were outshot 15-10 overall and took two fewer corner kicks (4) on the day.

The tie keeps the Dons in third place in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) standings at 10-1-5, 5-1-5, just ahead of the Pirates who sit in fourth place with a record of 7-7-4, 5-5-2.

GAME NOTES

Six yellow cards were given between the two teams on Friday afternoon. The Dons were given four plus a red and the Pirates earned two. This might be significant for the Dons with Negrete collecting his fourth in conference play, putting him one away from a suspension.
