Dons End Conference Play with 15-7 Loss to Orange Coast College

SANTA ANA - The Dons were unable to keep pace with visiting Orange Coast College starting in the fourth quarter as they dropped the Orange Empire Conference match 15-7 to the Pirates. The Dons are now 13-8 on the season and 1-4 in conference while the Pirates improve to 19-4 overall and 4-1 in conference.

The Dons opened the first quarter with a 3-1 lead behind goals from Alejandro Aguilera-Mercado, Clayton Boling and Micah Mathis. But the Pirates would come back to the the game at 3-3 before the end of the first quarter, before taking a lead of their own in the second quarter. OCC would go on to outscore the Dons 5-2, giving the Pirates an 8-5 lead at the break.

Orange Coast nearly shutout the Dons in the third quarter but Michael Nyberg was able to get a goal for SAC with just 13 seconds left in the frame as OCC outscored the Dons 4-1. Finally, in the fourth quarter, the Pirates sealed the victory with a 3-1 edge over the Dons.

Mathis added two goals in the second period to give him three for the game with Sebastian Zornosa joining Aguilera-Mercado, Boling and Nyberg as the other goalscorer in the game.
