Santa Ana Softball Stays in the Hunt with Sweep of Saddleback

SANTA ANA, Calif. - The Santa Ana College Softball team stayed in the hunt for an Orange Empire Conference Championship after completing a sweep of the Saddleback Bobcats (5-11, 6-11) on Friday afternoon.

SAC took both games in Friday's doubleheader by the same score of 3-1 to improve to a record of 15-5, 15-6, keeping them in second place and just one game behind the Fullerton Hornets.

In game one, the Dons jumped ahead early on a two run double off the centerfield wall from Jordan Westerfield. Santa Ana scored their third run on a Bobcat error that brought Westerfield home, giving Emily Rosas all the runs she needed to get the win.

Rosas threw a complete game, giving up one run and three hits while striking out six in her 10th win of the year.

Game two had the same score but a different story as the Bobcats started off strong and struck first in the third inning when Emma Estep hit an RBI double down the left field line to make it a 1-0 lead.

It didn't take long for Santa Ana to respond, as they came right back in the bottom half of the inning to score one on a Shelby Macias single. A couple innings later, the Dons pulled ahead after an RBI double to right by Iyari Ramirez followed by a Bobcat error that allowed one more to score.

Aspen Kyles got the start and allowed just one unearned run to score in three innings. Rosas returned to the mound for the last four innings to hold Saddleback at one and pick up win number 11.

SAC will finish the regular season next week with a four game series against the Orange Coast Pirates (5-7, 5-8). The Dons will then prepare for the Orange Empire Conference Softball Tournament which is set for June 2-4.
