SAC Softball Stays Undefeated, Tops Saddleback 6-3 in OEC Opener

SANTA ANA, Calif. - The Santa Ana Softball team used a five run second inning to take the lead and eventually the win over the Saddleback Bobcats (3-5, 0-1) in its first Orange Empire Conference game of the season on Wednesday afternoon.

In the first inning, Saddleback took advantage of a Don miscue and scored one run to take an early lead. But it didn't last long with SAC rallying one inning later.

The rally started with a couple singles by Sarah Casey and Sonya Carnal but the damage was done following two consecutive errors by Saddleback's defense, giving the Dons a 2-1 lead.

Airilin Ramirez then capitalized on an opportunity with runners in scoring position with a two run double to center field to make it a 4-1 game. The last run of the inning came on a single through the right side by Alana Rangsuebsin to score Ramirez.

The Bobcats showed some resilience as they added a couple runs on a long ball from Ehva Cifuentes-Zombulovic in the third but could not keep up with Santa Ana's offense, resulting in a 6-3 win for the Dons.

Emily Rosas picked up her seventh win of the year as she went the distance with six strikeouts and two earned runs.

Airilin Ramirez recorded a team high two hits with a couple runs batted and a walk while Rangsuebsin and Jojo Westerfield accounted for a hit and an RBI each.

The Dons will continue their season with a double-header on Friday at San Diego Mesa starting at 11:00 a.m. San Diego Mesa is 4-4-1 on the year.
