Nick Beavers Breaks Pair of SAC Records, Qualifies for State Finals

HUNTINGTON BEACH - While competing at the 2013 Orange Empire Conference Swim and Dive Championships, Nick Beavers set two new Santa Ana College records in as many days.

The first record set came in the 200-yard freestyle as Beavers turned in a time of 1:42.89 during his preliminary heat. That mark broke the record of 1:43.9 set by Peter Wilson in 1992. Beavers would go on to take fourth place in the finals of that event with a time of 1:43.84.

The next day, Beavers rewrote another section of the SAC record book when he took fourth place again, this time in the 100-yard freestyle, with a time of 47.29. The 100-yard freestyle record was held by two swimmers, Scott DeBoer and Joel Stewart, both of whom turned in a time of 47.81 during the 1993 season.

Continuing on with the season, Beavers turned in three times over the course of the season that qualified him for three events in the upcoming CCCAA State Championships at East Los Angeles College held April 25-27. Beavers will compete in the 50-yard, 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle at the championships.
