Seven Dons Qualify for the 2017 SoCal Prelims

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Santa Ana College Track and Field headed back to Riverside City College to compete in the 2017 Orange Empire Conference Track and Field Championships.

In the sprint events, Cydnee Wallace had an impressive day and set new personal records in both the 100 and 200-meter events. With times of 12.59 and 26.56, she has qualified to compete in the SoCal Preliminaries.

Toni Lopez made history by winning her second Orange Empire Championship of the year, taking first place with a time of 18:19.74 in the 5,000-meter event. Lopez's post-season will continue as she has qualified to compete in the SoCal Preliminaries in both the 5,000-meter and 10K events.

Lizbeth Luciano-Luis will join Wallace and Lopez in the SoCal Prelims this week, as finished in fifth in the 5,000-meter event with a time of 19:35.12. Lizeth Luciano-Luis finished in 7th Place in the 5,000-meter, coming in at 20:05.03 and will be an alternate for the SoCal Prelims.

In the men's 5,000-meter final, the Don's Paulino Sanchez fought to stay in front for much of the race but gave up some ground at the end, to finish third in the race with a time of 15:31.29. His teammates Eric Jimenez and Brian Ambrocio were right behind him, placing in fourth and fifth place respectively. All three will compete in the 5,000-meter and 10K events in the prelims.

Overall, seven Dons qualified for the SoCal Prelims being held at Cerritos College on Friday, May 5th.
