Second Half Dooms Dons in 72-65 Loss to Saddleback College

SANTA ANA - The Dons dropped their final home game of the season by a score of 72-65 to visiting Saddleback College. With the loss, the Dons are now 14-13 on the season and 4-7 in conference with just one game remaining. The Gauchos improve to 18-10 overall and 9-2 in conference.

The two teams exchanged the lead several times throughout the first half with the largest lead belonging to the Dons at 15-10 on a Carly Ducat jumper just under six minutes into the half. Ashley Whisler had the Dons up by three late in the half with a pair of free throws, but Deja Brooks forced the halftime tie at 31-31 with a made layup and a free throw after being fouled on the play.

The Gauchos came out fast in the second half, using a 16-2 run in the first five minutes to establish a 47-33 lead. The Dons would slowly chip away at Saddleback's lead, pulling within six at 66-60 with two minutes remaining, but the Gauchos put an end to the run to win the game.

Jazmine Johnson led all scorers with 25 points despite playing with foul trouble through most of the game. Whisler followed with 18 points while Ducat chipped in 12.

The regular season wraps up on Friday with the Dons playing at Cypress College at 5:30 p.m.
