Dons Hold Lead Against the Tigers

SANTA ANA- The Dons defeated the Riverside City College Tigers in their tenth Orange Empire Conference game 84-76. The win brings the Dons (14-11, 4-5) on a two-game winning streak while Riverside falls to 16-9 overall and 3-5 in the Orange Empire Conference.

During the Coaches vs. Cancer night, sophomore Blaysen Varnadoe opened the game with a layup followed by two jump shots from sophomore Amy Talavou. The Dons finished out the quarter with a six point lead over Riverside.

Talavou led the second quarter by scoring three free throws in a row. Freshman Alexis Smith from Villa Park High School scored a three-point jump shot with an assist from Blaysen Varnadoe to extend the lead over the Tigers by 8 points and then came back to defense to block a shot from RCC.

Amy Talavou led the Dons to their win with 20 points on the board and had 5 rebounds. Both Alysia Gamboa and Lauren Fruto scored 10 points each for SAC. The team was 76% in free throws and 50% in field goal average.

Women's basketball will play again on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at Orange Coast College at 7:00 p.m.
