Dons Honor Five on Sophomore Night

SANTA ANA, Calif. – Five members of the Dons women's basketball team were honored before they played in their last home game at Santa Ana College on Thursday night.

The group of sophomores included Sally Morris, Brianna Sanchez, Angela Rodriguez, Cailey Vitug and Cynthia Figueroa who were escorted by family, friends and teammates in the ceremony before the game.

THE GAME

Santa Ana attempted to snap a two game losing streak as they hosted the Riverside Tigers (13-10, 9-3) in an Orange Empire Conference contest.

The Dons came out with a ton of energy and held their own to finish the first quarter tied at 10-10. Sally Morris got the start and provided a spark, hitting her first two long balls while Lexi Ross added four in the quarter.

In the second, Morris continued to put the ball in the basket with six more points to help the Dons keep things close. Santa Ana battled to stay within three until the Tigers went on a 7-0 run to push the lead to 31-23 at the half.

Riverside kept the momentum in the third quarter, taking advantage of the Santa Ana scoring drought to pull away in the second half.

The game ended with the Dons down 70-47, dropping them to a record of 6-19, 2-10 while Riverside maintained its spot at third place in the OEC standing with a record of 13-10, 9-3.
