Slow Start Leads to Loss Against No. 9 Irvine Valley

SANTA ANA, Calif. – Although the Santa Ana women's basketball team had a slow start on Friday night against the No. 9 ranked Irvine Valley Lasers, they refocused and played them tough in last 30 minutes of the game.

In quarters two through four, Santa Ana showed a lot of heart as they outscored the Lasers by one point. But the 31-4 first quarter deficit was too much to overcome, giving the Dons an 89-63 loss.

Brianna Aluva scored a team high 18 points with nine rebounds and two assists off the bench. Nicole Robles hit four threes and added 14 points.

As a team, the Dons shot just 33.8 percent from the field and 53.8 percent from the free throw line but hit 10 threes for the seventh time this season. Santa Ana now ranks sixth in total three pointers made in the state and 16th in three point shooting percentage.

UP NEXT: Santa Ana, now 7-11, 1-3, will try to bounce back as they match up against Golden West (1/22) and Fullerton (1/24) next week.
