SAC Wrestling Opens Season by Hosting Annual Tournament

SANTA ANA, Calif. - The Santa Ana College Wrestling team competed for the first time this season as they hosted their annual tournament on Saturday. With 10 other schools in attendance and 24 total teams, the Dons took 10th place while two of their wrestlers placed top four in their respective brackets.

Ezekiel Hueter had a nice start to his career as he placed fourth in the 157 pound bracket. The freshman from Vista Murrieta High advanced with a bye in the first round before taking out his opponent from Victor Valley with a fall at the 24 second mark in the next round. In the third round, Hueter took on the eventual winner of the bracket, Kendall Frank from Sacramento City, and was bounced to the consultation bracket with a fall at 51 seconds.

Hueter then went on a run, dominating his next three bouts to advance to the third place match against Mt. San Antonio's Marcus Labota. The two standouts battled until Labota ended it with a fall at the 6:19 mark, giving Hueter the fourth place spot.

The second Don to earn fourth place in his bracket was sophomore Salvador Munoz. Following a bye in round one of the 165 pound bracket, Munoz collected his first win of the day as he defeated Anthony Yerena of Rio Hondo by a score of 11-2. Unfortunately, Munoz was knocked out of the winners bracket in the third round after falling to Gracen Hayes from Bakersfield, 8-2.

The returner from El Modena collected a couple of falls in the consolation bracket to earn a rematch against Hayes in the third place match. But once again, Hayes managed to come out on top, winning by a score of 5-1.

Santa Ana will continue its season with a conference duel at Cerritos College on October 12th. The match is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
