SAC Wrestling Drops First Conference Dual to Cerritos

Written by John Salzer

NORWALK, Calif. - The Santa Ana College wrestling team competed in its first event since hosting the Santa Ana tournament with a conference dual competition. Their opponent was the #2 ranked team in the state and winners of the Santa Ana Tournament, Cerritos College.

The Cerritos team proved quite the challenge for the Dons, who managed to get four wrestlers into the new state rankings with honorable mentions in the new rankings that came out this week. The dual went the way of the Cerritos team, who did not let Santa Ana get any points on the board until the second half of the dual.

Salvador Munoz at 165 pounds scored the first team points, thanks to an executed Russian arm throw to pin his opponent at 1 minute and 57 seconds of the first period. Jonathan Aldana was the other winner for the Dons, wrestling up a weight class to fill the 174-pound hole.

While having a rough start in the first period of his match, Aldana managed to dominate the second and third periods of his match to score a majority decision victory of 11-2. This would give Santa Ana double digit points for the night as they closed out their dual loss 40-10.
