Santa Ana Holds Off IVC to Win 5-2

SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Santa Ana women's soccer team held off the Irvine Valley Lasers for a much needed 5-2 win in Friday's Orange Empire Conference match.

Santa Ana got off to a sluggish start, as the Lasers took an early lead with a goal in the 13th minute. Shortly after, the Dons fell into a rhythm and started producing some offensive opportunities. Sophomore forward Lizbeth Gonzalez put the Dons on the board with a goal in the 22nd minute and followed that with a header just over the IVC keeper to give her team a 2-1 lead in the 25th minute.

Just about 10 minutes later, Leyna Wood got in on the action, scoring her fifth goal of the season at the 36-minute mark. She scored twice more in the second half, giving her three goals for the match and seven total for the season.

IVC scored their second goal on a penalty kick in the second half but couldn't complete the comeback, leading to a 5-2 win for Santa Ana.

The Dons improve to 3-4-1 overall, 1-3 in OEC play while the Lasers fall to 2-4-2, 0-3-1. Santa Ana will be back in action on Tuesday next week at home against Orange Coast College. The Pirates are 2-4-2, 1-3 after today's 3-2 loss against Golden West.
