Dons Can't Overcome Early Deficit, Fall to OCC

SANTA ANA, Calif. – On Tuesday, the Santa Ana women's soccer team continued Orange Empire Conference (OEC) play by hosting the Orange Coast Pirates.

Orange Coast put some pressure on the Dons early, which led to two goals in the first 13 minutes of the contest. The Pirates added another goal at the 37-minute mark, making the score 3-0 at the half.

The Dons came out of the break with much more energy and fight. Santa Ana was the aggressor in the first 30 minutes of the second half, possessing the ball more and getting some good looks at the goal.

Their efforts paid off as they were awarded a penalty kick when Karla Zetina was fouled from behind inside the box. Leyna Wood was called on to shoot the penalty kick, knocking it in for her eighth goal of the season in the 68th minute.

Santa Ana made an attempt to keep up the pace and push for the tie but just ran out of gas. The Dons dropped the match by a final score of 5-1, falling to 3-5-2 overall and 1-4 in OEC play. OCC improved to 3-4-2,2-3.

GAME NOTES

With her eighth goal of the year, Leyna Wood is now the conference leader in goals scored. She is also tied for second in points with 17 total.

Santa Ana hits the road for anther OEC match, this time against Golden West College. The Rustlers are 4-0 in the OEC and 7-1-1 after defeating Saddleback 2-1 on Tuesday.
