Dons Take Out the Hornets in Five Sets

SANTA ANA, Calif. – It took five sets and a total team effort for the Santa Ana College Volleyball team to come up with a victory against Fullerton College on Wednesday night.

The Dons and Hornets battled all night until the match was decided in the fifth and final set.

Fullerton saw themselves up 9-8 in the middle of the set but the Dons made their run after Dianna Nguyen recorded her eighth kill of the night to tie the score. Santa Ana took the lead following a Hornet error on the following play, forcing them to call a timeout.

The score would be tied after a Santa Ana service error, but from then on out the Dons would dominate to take the last five points. Mikelle Taylor recorded three kills in that short time frame to lead the Dons to the win.

At the end of the night, the Dons used almost their whole team to come up with the win, playing 12 in the match. Mikelle Taylor totaled 22 kills and 20 digs to lead the Dons in both categories. Jasmin Cardona ran a smooth offensive and put up 40 assists to go along with 19 digs on the night and Kassandra Murillo controlled the net with four solo blocks and three block assists.

With the win, the Dons won their second Orange Empire Conference match of the season to improve to 9-11 overall and 2-9 in conference play. Santa Ana will play the last of its three match homestand on Wednesday, November 1st against Santiago Canyon at 6:00 p.m.
