Sanchez Ends Season with 12th Place at State

Freshman runner Paulino Sanchez ended the 2016 season with a 12th place finish at the 2016 California Community College Athletic Association Cross Country State Championships held at Woodward Park in Fresno.

As a team, the men finished in seventh place out of 28 teams. Freshman Awal Hussen wasn't far behind Sanchez with a 27th place finish, and freshman Dalton Aviles finished 31st overall.

In the women's 5K run, sophomore Toni Lopez ran a 5:56.6 average mile and finished in sixth place, which was one step higher than last year when she placed in seventh at the State Championships. Sophomore Lizeth Luciano-Luis placed in 30th out of 199 athletes and sophomore Lizbeth Luciano finished with a time of 19:45.9 in 57th place. Unfortunately, the women's cross country team did not place because they needed one more participant in the competition.

This was the second time since 2008 that both the men's and women's cross country teams qualified for the CCCAA State Championships.
