Aviles Leads the Dons as Santa Ana Hosts 2018 Brubaker Invitational

SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Santa Ana College cross country program hosted the 2018 Brubaker Invitational on Friday, October 5th at Irvine Regional Park. The Dons competed against 12 other schools at the meet, placing 5th in the men's race and 7th on the women's side.

Servando Aviles was the top runner for the Dons as he finished 7th overall, earning a medal with a time of 21:06.1. Right behind him was Giovanni Barajas, who came in at 21:32.3 for 18th place while Dalton Aviles clocked in with a time of 21:51.4 for 26th. Rounding out the Santa Ana team were Lizandro Hernandez (23:14.5), Dante Perez (23:17.6), Daniel Gonzalez (23:24.4), Octavio Moreno (24:06.7) and Sergio Rodriguez-Martinez (27:14.3).

Santa Ana's women were led by Maria Marroquin, who placed 24th with a time of 21:11.8 and was closely followed by the 27th place finisher, Lucero Torres Calderon (21:22.5). Melissa Aguirre (22:11.9), Monique Azpeitia (22:39.7), Maria Lopez (24:46.6) and Jacqueline Sanchez (25:11.7) filled out the Santa Ana team for their 7th place finish.

The Dons will now prepare for their next meet at UC Riverside in the Highlander Classic on October 13th before heading to the Orange Empire Conference Championships on October 26th at Riverside College.
