No. 7 Dons Complete Sweep of Long Beach with 11-5 Win

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The No. 7 ranked Dons (20-10, 8-4) completed a series sweep against the Long Beach City Vikings (15-16, 11-4) with an 11-5 win on Wednesday afternoon. 

In game one, Brady Ashworth overcame some early errors from his defense to pick up his third win of the season. The sophomore right-hander struck out four over eight innings and conceded  four unearned runs. James Showalter wrapped up the game with a scoreless ninth while striking out one. 

Santa Ana took advantage of a few Viking mistakes early on as they also recorded four unearned runs through four innings of play. 

The Dons eventually did some damage to Long Beach's ERA by showing some power with three solo home runs from the trio of Mario Tostado, Troy Kent and Christian Thompson in the sixth and seventh innings. 

Michael Poot produced the final run of the day with an RBI on a ground out to second to score Tostado. 

On Wednesday, SAC went on the road for the series finale and put on a dominant performance. 

Santa Ana scored in four of the first five innings of the game while shutting down the Viking offense to go up 7-0. The Dons would push the game out of reach with four more runs in the final two innings before Long Beach made it respectable with a four spot in the ninth. 

Hauze Fragoso improved his record to 3-0 as he gave up just one in six innings while striking out three. Rocco Gurrola and Noe Novella combined to go unscathed in the final three innings of action. 

As a team, the Dons put up 11 runs on 10 hits and capped the day with a three run shot from Marc Schavone in the ninth inning. 

Santa Ana will finish their bye week with another non-conference game as they travel to El Camino (20-9, 11-4) on Friday.
