SAC Football Players Give Back to the Community

The Santa Ana College (SAC) football team spent the weekend of April 9-10 volunteering in two charity events as the Dons looked to give back to the community.

The first event took place on the campus of SAC on Saturday, April 9 when the Health Center teamed up with the Children's Hospital of Orange County for the Air Power Games. The Air Power Games is a track & field event for children ages 5-14 diagnosed with asthma.

Five members of the football team volunteered for that event, including quarterback Andrew McDonald (above) and defensive end Sahr Hemmor. Along with leading a short stretching session before the event, the players assisted with several of the events including the javelin throw and the high jump.

Following the Air Power Games, several members of the Dons football team joined forces at the Honda Center Saturday afternoon to assist with the setup for the Orange County Ronald McDonald House Walk for Kids.

The student athletes returned Sunday morning to continue assisting with the setup before participating in the Walk for Kids. This was the second straight year that the Dons have participated in the walk.

"We like to do anything with the community that we can," said SAC head football coach Geoff Jones. "These are two great causes. We've always had a handful of players with asthma and we want to show kids with asthma that they can do whatever they want."

The football team's involvement with the community comes two weeks after the baseball and women's soccer team volunteered its time at the annual Kindercaminata event held at SAC. Each team set up their own athletic based booth as kindergartners from local schools toured the campus.
