Dons End 2011 Season with 25-22 Loss to Orange Coast

The Santa Ana College (SAC) football team relinquished the "Victory Flag" to rival Orange Coast College (OCC) after the visiting Pirates defeated the Dons 25-22 in the final game of the season.

The Dons (5-5, 2-3) won the flag for the first time last season when it was first introduced to the rivalry. The Pirates (4-6, 2-3), who lead the all-time series 31-29-1, are now the proud owners of the "Victory Flag."

The Dons opened the game with a 79-yard touchdown pass on a reverse option. Joshua Webb connected with Ario Winston for the touchdown on the first play from scrimmage. The Dons botched the extra point but were able to convert for two, giving them an 8-0 lead.

Domenic Betts pulled the Pirates within one at 8-7 when he ran in from four yards out late in the first quarter. That would cap the scoring until the final second of the third quarter.

Terrance Holzendorf extended the Dons lead to 15-7 with one second remaining in the third quarter when he scored on a 17-yard run. It didn't take OCC long to tie the game as Josh Hawkins returned the ensuing kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. Betts ran in the two-point conversion to tie the game at 15-15.

Betts scored his second touchdown of the game halfway through the fourth quarter, this time from one yard out, to give the Pirates their first lead of the game at 22-15.

Four minutes later, Andrew McDonald ran a touchdown in from one yard out to tie the game for the Dons at 22-22. The Pirates were then able to run the clock down before kicking the game-winning field goal from 24 yards out with 31 seconds left in the game.

Holzendorf led the way for the Dons with 139 yards rushing on 27 carries. His counterpart, Betts, finished the game with 198 yards rushing on 40 carries.
