Defense Challenged in Loss to West LA

SANTA ANA, Calif. – Defense continues to be a challenge for the Santa Ana football team as the Dons gave up 56 points in a loss to West LA on Saturday afternoon.

SAC limited the Wildcats' passing game, allowing just 88 yards and a touchdown in the air. But the damage was done on the ground, as West LA had three players rush for over 100 yards, combining for 437 yards.

Kenny Phillips returned from injury to lead the Dons in tackles with 10 including a sack. In addition, Chris Hertl collected eight tackles and a forced fumble while Garrett Hawkins recorded seven tackles.

Santa Ana's offense was led by Cross Faletoi, who threw for a season high 259 yards and four touchdowns. Freshman receiver Tyler Shimomura was his top target, going for six catches, 110 yards and two touchdowns. Indiana Taylor also had an exceptional game with five receptions, 89 yards and a touchdown.

The loss gives Santa Ana a record of 2-4 overall and 1-1 in American Metro League play while West LA keeps pace at 4-3, 3-0.

NEXT UP: Santa Ana will prepare for a road game in week eight against No. 9 ranked Chaffey College. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. at Grigsby Field.
