SAC Men’s Soccer Splits in Nike/Azteca Mt. SAC Tournament

WALNUT, Calif. - The Santa Ana Men's Soccer team competed in the 2021 Nike/Azteca Men's Soccer Tournament at Mt. San Antonio College from September 3-5. 

On Friday, the Dons (1-1-1) matched up against Lake Tahoe (2-2) and were defeated 3-1 in the opening day of the tournament. 

The Dons found themselves down early as Lake Tahoe put a ball in the net at the 14 minute mark. But sophomore midfielder Marcelo Aguirre tied the score with a goal in the 35th minute off an assist from Josue Martinez

Shortly after, Lake Tahoe answered SAC's push, taking the lead back with another goal in the 38th minute. The Coyotes added some insurance in the second half with the last goal of the day at the 52nd minute mark, giving Santa Ana its first loss of the season. 

In its second match of the tournament, the Santa Ana Men's Soccer team turned things around to shut out the West Valley Vikings 2-0 to even their record at 1-1-1. 

Jose Villa came up big for the Dons as he recorded his first goal of the season to go along with an assist. Josue Martinez was credited with a goal of his own while Josh Lezama picked up an assist. 

Santa Ana will continue its season with their home opener on Tuesday, September 7th against LA Mission (1-1) at 4:00 p.m. Mission is coming off a 3-0 loss to Antelope Valley.
