Dons Softball Blanks Allan Hancock 3-0 to Open Playoffs

SANTA ANA - The #5 Dons opened the 2014 CCCAA Softball Southern Regional Playoffs with a 3-0 shutout win over #12 Allan Hancock College. The series continues on Sunday, May 4 with game two at 12:00 p.m. at Santa Ana College.

The Dons scored their first two runs in the third inning when Katlyn Harvey singled up the middle, plating Keila Tenorio and Paolena Comouche. Comouche reached on an error on her sacrifice bunt before Tenorio reached on a fielder's choice, setting up Harvey's two-out single.

Alyssa Yglesias came in to score the Dons third and final run in the fourth inning when she hit a leadoff single before stealing second and third base. She eventually came in to score the run on Danielle Hernandez's single to right field.

Allan Hancock was shutout by the duo of Lindsey Esparza and Frances Campoy. Esparza (11-3) got the win after pitching five scoreless innings before Campoy earned her fifth save of the season, holding the Bulldogs to just one hit while striking out three over the final two innings.

Katie Chenault (26-9) took the loss for Allan Hancock after allowing all three runs, two earned, on six hits over six innings. Chenault also racked up nine strikeouts in the game.
