SAC Softball Knocks Off No. 5 Long Beach to Advance to State Championships

SANTA ANA, Calif. - The No. 4 seeded Santa Ana College Softball team defeated No. 5 Long Beach 5-1 in game two of their California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) SoCal Regional - Round 2 matchup to punch their ticket to the State Championships in Bakersfield.

Santa Ana (37-7, 20-4) played lights out in both games, outscoring the Vikings (29-13, 15-6) 13-1 overall.

Emily Rosas led the charge once again as she struck out 18 batters while giving up just one unearned run in 12 innings of work.

Offensively, the Dons got some production throughout their lineup. In game one, Rosas and Iyari Ramirez did the majority of the damage with three runs batted in and a couple hits each while hitting in the bottom half of the lineup.

On Saturday, it was Jojo Westerfield who stepped up with a 3-for-3 day, driving in three of the five Don runs.

The Vikings put up a good fight in game two as they entered the day in a win or go home situation. LBCC scored the first run of the game to give themselves hope but the Dons quickly weathered the storm and eventually took control of the game to end the Vikings season in the second round of regionals.

Santa Ana will now await the seeding for the state tournament which is set for May 19-22.
