Dons Women’s Soccer Starts OEC Play with 3-1 Win Over IVC

SANTA ANA, Calif. - Freshman forward Diana Hernandez scored two goals in the second half to help the Santa Ana Women's Soccer team earn a 3-1 victory over Irvine Valley (2-5-1, 0-1) in its Orange Empire Conference opener on Tuesday afternoon.

The outburst of scoring couldn't have come at a better time for the Dons (1-3-2, 1-0) after struggling on the offensive end for most of their non-conference schedule.

Irvine Valley came out sharp and in control for the first 10 minutes of the match and quickly got on the board with a goal from Julia Butz in the 7th minute.

The Dons then inserted a few reserves, including Hernandez and Ximena Barreras. With more offensive threats on the field, Santa Ana was able to respond and even the score at 1-1 as Angelica Flores scored at the 44 minute mark.

SAC did not let up in the second and eventually put away the Lasers with two well executed runs at goal.

Hernandez put those goals away in the 72nd and 80th minutes and was assisted on both goals by fellow freshman Barreras.

The Dons picked up their first win of the season and hope to carry this momentum into Friday's OEC matchup at Golden West. The Rustlers will enter Friday with a record 3-4 after falling to Santiago Canyon by a score of 4-0 on Tuesday.
