Dons Offense Continues to Struggle at Home in 17-10 Loss to Moorpark

SANTA ANA - The Dons continue to struggle offensively at home after losing to Moorpark College 17-10 at the Santa Ana Stadium in a non-conference game. With National Division, Southern Conference competition starting next week, the Dons are now 1-2 on the season. Moorpark improved to 2-1 with the win.

The Raiders scored first on their opening drive of the game when they capped off a 13-play, 58-yard drive with a 29-yard field goal by Chris Taylor.

Later in the quarter, the Dons scored their first touchdown at home of the season when Shane Truelove turned a quarterback scramble into a 24-yard touchdown run to put the Dons up 7-3. The drive, which went 57 yards in eight plays, was Truelove's first drive of the game after the Dons first two drives failed to get a first down.

However, the Raiders would reclaim the lead at 10-7 before the end of the first quarter when Nick Davis found Iheanyi Obinna on a nine-yard touchdown pass. The Dons then evened the score at 10-10 in the second quarter with a 32-yard field goal by Ian Miller. The two teams would go into the half with the game remaining tied at 10-10.

The only score of the second half, which proved to be the game-winning score, was by Moorpark when the Raiders got a 35-yard touchdown pass from Davis to Raymond Bolden with 9:43 left in the third quarter. The Raiders would hold on to that lead for the remainder of the game to claim the victory.

The final numbers showed Moorpark outgaining the Dons with 332 yards on 94 plays while the Dons managed just 252 yards on 76 plays. The majority of the Raiders yardage came in the air with 241 yards passing while the Dons threw for 186 yards.
