Dons Use Balanced Attack to Defeat San Diego Mesa, 72-62

SANTA ANA, Calif. - The Santa Ana College Men's Basketball team used a balanced attack on their way to a 72-62 win over the San Diego Mesa Olympians (3-6) in non-conference action on Friday night. 

Despite having a tough shooting night, Mac West led the Dons (5-4) in scoring with 17 points. West shot just 3-for-17 from the field but got to the freethrow line consistently as he collected 10 points from the stripe. The standout from San Juan Capistrano also grabbed seven boards and dished out six assists.

The Dons got 27 points from their bench with a good chunk coming from Ja'Von Maxwell, who had 12 points and nine rebounds while Bohdi Armstrong (7), Zeke Bennett (5) and Jaitice Hayes (3) combined for 15. 

Karson Roberts recorded his first double-digit scoring game of the season with 10 points on the night. The freshman guard added eight rebounds and five assists in another solid performance. 

Court Franklin and Kaden Minter put up eight points each while Jimmy Williams topped off the scoring with two points in his first start of the year. 

As a team, SAC shot just 38.5 percent from the field and 17.6 percent from behind the arch. But they did show their ability to defend as they held the Olympians to just 62 points on a 35.5 percent field goal percentage. 

 With the win, the Dons moved over .500 with a 5-4 overall record. They'll hit the road in search for their third consecutive win on Wednesday, December 13th against LA Harbor College. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
