Dons Shutout SD City 3-0 to Advance to Second Round of Playoffs

SANTA ANA - The Dons picked up their first playoff win on their new field in their first opportunity with a 3-0 win over visiting San Diego City College in the first round of the California Community College Athletic Association Men's Soccer Southern Regional Playoffs.

With the win, the Dons (14-4-4) advance to the second round against Los Angeles Harbor College after LA Harbor defeated Southwestern College 2-1. The second round match will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Santa Ana College.

The Dons took a 1-0 lead into halftime on the strength of Luis Venegas' 25th goal of the season. Venegas scored in the 32nd minute when Jovanny Lopez set him up in front of the goal. After one touch, Venegas' shot beat the Knights goalkeeper.

In the 51st minute, Leonardo Contreras headed in a goal on a cross from Lopez to put the Dons up 2-0. The Dons third, and final goal, came moments into stoppage time when Omar Perez lifted a pass over the Knights defense that found Contreras who then beat the goalkeeper one-on-one with a long shot.

Luis Trujillo kept the Knights scoreless as he made three goals for the Dons in 90 minutes. On the other side of the field, Yuri Ishikawa made three saves for SD City while allowing all three goals in 90 minutes.
