Dons Second Half Rally Falls Short in 19-14 Loss to Saddleback College

SANTA ANA - The Dons found themselves behind by too many as their second half rally fell short in a 19-14 loss to Saddleback College. The loss drops the Dons 5-15 overall and 0-5 in conference while Saddleback improves to 7-9 overall and 1-4 in conference.

The Dons scored the game's first two goals, one by Zack Cosner and one by Jeremy Scharf, before the Gauchos answered with two-straight goals to tie the match heading into the second period.

It was the second period where Saddleback pulled away as the Gauchos outscored the Dons 8-2 in the frame. Cosner broke a 4-0 run by Saddleback with his second goal of the match before the Gauchos scored six straight. That run was broken by Scharf's second goal, which was also the final goal of the first half as the Gauchos took a 10-4 lead into the break.

The Dons edged Saddleback 5-4 in the third quarter with a pair of goals from Christopher Fausto while Anthony Delgado, Nima Kashani and Cosner provided the other three goals.

With back-to-back goals at the start of the fourth by Cosner and Joashua Sanchez, the Dons found themselves down just three goals at 14-11. The two teams then traded goals with Cosner scoring for the Dons to make the game 15-12 before Saddleback put the match away with four-straight goals.

Finally, the Dons got goals from Sanchez and Chase Vergolino-Holiday to cap scoring and end the game at 19-14 in favor of the visiting Gauchos.
