SANTA ANA - The Dons picked up a 6-1 non-conference win over visiting Long Beach City College today to improve to 15-10 on the season. The win came behind nine hits and a strong pitching performance by Victoria Franks (15-8).

The Dons jumped out early with a pair of runs in the first inning with Annie Dowling singling in Emily Whitecavage before Vanessa Moreno plated Katlyn Harvey with a RBI-groundout. From there, Whitecavage singled in Tori Ferguson in the second inning to extend the Dons lead to 3-0.

Long Beach (8-18) would cut the lead to 3-1 in the sixth with Cristina Barajas scoring on a RBI-double by Mary Gonzales. The run came across unearned as Barajas was running for Gabrielle de la Vega who reached on an error.

The Dons would come back and pull away in the bottom of the sixth inning with three runs on three hits. Harvey tripled in Kori Cochran before Dowling doubled in Harvey. Briana Acuna, who came in to run for Dowling, scored the final run when she stole home.

Franks got the win for the Dons as she held Long Beach to the one unearned run on five hits over seven innings. Gonzales (6-11) took the loss for the Vikings after allowing six runs, all earned, on nine hits in 5.2 innings of work.
