Dons Struggle in Loss to Cypress to Open OEC Play

SANTA ANA - The Dons opened Orange Empire Conference competition today with a 14-0 loss to visiting Cypress College in five innings. The Dons (4-7) were held to just four hits while Cypress (5-1) scored its 14 runs on 11 hits.

The bulk of the Chargers offense came in the third inning when they scored 10 runs, including a three-run home run by Taylor Pierce, after taking an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. The final run came across in the top of the fifth inning on a single up the middle.

Desiree Hernandez (2-2) took the loss for the Dons as she allowed nine runs on six hits in just two innings of work. For Cypress, Ashley Ramirez (1-0) got the win as she held the Dons scoreless on three hits in three innings.
