SAC Wrestling Upsets Two Top 10 Teams, Places 4th in SoCal Regional Duals

NORWALK, Calif. - Santa Ana Wrestling had a good showing at the CCCAA SoCal Regional Duals as they went 2-2 to place fourth as a team at Cerritos College on Saturday morning.

In round one of the tournament, Santa Ana faced off against No. 2 Cerritos once again. Although the Dons showed improvement in the rematch, they ultimately dropped the match by a score of 36-20.

The Dons then met up with No. 8 Victor Valley in the consolation bracket where they rebounded with a 28-24 upset win.

Santa Ana advanced to set up a match against No. 7 Bakersfield, giving them another chance for an upset. Two Bakersfield forfeits and wins from Damien Lopez (5-3), Ezekiel Hueter (11-5) and Sergio Gutierrez (Fall) led to a 24-24 tie. SAC moved on to the third place match as they were awarded the win due to dual meet criteria.

In their last dual of the day, Santa Ana fell to No. 10 Palomar, 28-17 to solidify a fourth place finish.

With two wins against top 10 teams in the state, Santa Ana is sure to get some consideration in the next state rankings.

The Dons will continue their season on Saturday, October 22nd with the Meathead Invitational at Cuesta College.
